Inmate dead after found hanging in jail.




Wayne County Sheriff Travis Hutchinson reports that on November 24, 2013 an inmate of the Wayne County Jail was found hanging by a shirt in a jail restroom area.

Jerry Lee Wile, 53 of Wooster Ohio, was found at 3:50AM by another inmate who immediately notified a deputy working in the jail. The responding deputy and a inmate were able to get Mr. Wile down to the floor where the deputy began CPR. Paramedic’s from the Wooster City Fire department also responded and provided additional medical assistance. Despite the efforts of all involved, it was apparent that Wile was dead.
Wayne County Coroner Amy Jolliff responded to the scene and is investigating the cause of death. An autopsy is scheduled for 10 AM on Monday at the Summit County Medical Examiners Office.
Mr. Wile was incarcerated for operating a vehicle under the influence. He was processed into the jail on September 27, 2013 and was to be released March 27, 2014.

“The investigation into this death continues and all inmates who had contact with Mr. Wile have been interviewed. I want complete transparency in this matter and will be requesting an independent review of this matter by an outside agency” said Sheriff Hutchinson.
